The newly established Ningbo Guoxin Microelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. mainly engages in the design and sales of high-speed and low-power chips for smart mobile terminals and smart home appliances. It is expected to sell 4 million image sensor chips and 1 million mobile storage chips within 3 years, achieving an output value of over 60 million yuan.

The "semi-floating gate transistor" achievement was published in the world's top journal Science on August 9, 2013, by the team of Zhang Wei and Sun Qingqing from Fudan University. It is the first paper published by China's microelectronics industry in Science. In addition, this achievement was selected as one of China's top ten major technical advances in 2013, and received the "Golden Kangaroo World Innovation Award 2013" issued by the World Innovation Forum.

Sun Qingqing, the leader of the entrepreneurship team and general manager of Ningbo Guoxin Microelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., introduced that the company will use the "semi-floating gate transistor" as the core technology to design and sell high-speed and low-power image sensor chips and mobile storage chips for smart mobile terminals and smart home appliances. At present, the entrepreneurship team has applied for more than 30 invention patents in China and the United States around the semi-floating gate transistor.

Industry insiders pointed out that the "semi-floating gate transistor" is a new type of microelectronic device with great performance and cost advantages in high-speed and low-power image sensor chips (market capacity of 8 billion US dollars) and mobile storage chips (market capacity of 15 billion US dollars). It can improve reading speed by 5 to 10 times, reduce power consumption by 20 times, and lower costs by 30%. Moreover, it is a chip independently developed by China with complete intellectual property rights, breaking the monopoly of existing similar products by foreign intellectual property. It has milestone significance in China's integrated circuit field.

If "Guoxin" is a seed of hope just sown, then "ChipEx" established in the New Zone a year ago has already achieved initial success. In January last year, "ChipEx" was registered and established in Hangzhou Bay New Zone. Its main business is semiconductor chip Advanced Packaging and related services. The technical team was introduced by the Tsinghua Yangtze River Delta Research Institute.

In just over a year, the company has invested nearly 100 million yuan. Currently, it has completed all infrastructure construction and equipment installation and debugging, and has begun trial production. "Such progress is unprecedented in the industry," said Yu Guoqing, general manager of the company. This senior "worker" who was born in Zhouxiang and has worked in many cities at home and abroad, has now become the company's second-largest shareholder through technology shares.

"From cutting first then packaging to packaging first then cutting, this seemingly small change has increased efficiency by hundreds or even thousands of times, upgrading the entire industry from labor-intensive to technology-intensive. The packaged chips reach the extreme of light, small, short, thin and high cost-performance, which perfectly meets the market's development needs," said Yu Guoqing.

ChipEx, carrying dreams, has not disappointed people. Although the company is still in the product trial stage, it has already generated a "butterfly effect" in the industry. Before and after the company's completion, more than 20 companies have sent orders one after another, and multiple chip design companies are following up.

"The technological breakthrough in the packaging link will attract upstream and downstream enterprises to follow up successively, thereby forming a complete emerging industrial chain," said Yu Guoqing. The company plans to obtain 15 invention patents this year, achieve an output value of 300 million to 400 million yuan, and strive to become a domestic packaging and testing leader within 5 years.

In the face of the huge market potential of the IT manufacturing industry, the "Electronics and Electrical Engineering" in the New Zone's "2+3+1" dominant industry system will usher in good development opportunities. The relevant person in charge of the New Zone Economic Development Bureau stated that while doing a good job in the construction and commissioning of the two current projects, the New Zone will also pay special attention to this industry in investment promotion. IT manufacturing industry with high technology content and high added value is expected to become the next "new star" in the New Zone's industrial pattern.
