In 2013, the global economy continued its slow recovery process, but the growth trend remained limited. For the semiconductor industry, driven by hot application areas such as smart terminals, consumer electronics, automotive electronics, IoT, and new energy, the global semiconductor market still achieved a growth of 4.8%, with sales reaching US$305.6 billion, setting a historical record.
In 2013, under the influence of the slow global economic recovery, the scale of China's electronic product exports reached a new high once again, particularly with smart mobile terminal devices becoming a new application hotspot for China's integrated circuit market. Driven by multiple factors, the sales scale of China's integrated circuit market accelerated its growth in 2013, reaching 916.63 billion yuan, with a growth rate of 7.1%.
In 2014, China's expected GDP growth rate was set at 7.5%, balancing both needs and possibilities. At this year's Two Sessions, the 7.5% economic growth target was one of the most critical figures in the government work report. China's economy is undergoing transformation and upgrading, gradually narrowing the imbalance between eastern and western economic development levels. In 2014, China's proactive slowdown in economic growth is conducive to the gentle recovery and stable growth of the world economy. This indicates that the national economy will remain stable and improve, providing strong demand pull for the semiconductor market. Previously, China had already surpassed the United States to become the world's largest consumer electronics market, and Asia had replaced North America as the largest regional market for consumer electronics. The favorable economic growth trend and the enormous consumer electronics market demand will greatly promote the development of China's integrated circuit market.
At the first meeting of the Central Cyberspace Administration and Informatization Leading Group at the beginning of the year, President Xi Jinping pointed out, "Without cybersecurity, there is no national security; without informatization, there is no modernization." As the core foundation for ensuring national "cybersecurity" and building "informatization," the integrated circuit industry therefore demonstrates promising development prospects. A new round of national support policies for the integrated circuit industry is about to be introduced, which will inevitably bring significant benefits to the industry and further consolidate the leading position of the integrated circuit industry in strategic emerging industries.
The tilt of national policies makes the future growth of the domestic integrated circuit market predictable. In particular, future policy directions will also promote the establishment of a diversified, multi-channel technology investment system and the introduction of social capital. As electronic enterprises, they should seize the favorable development opportunities, cultivate core manufacturing processes and core application technologies, and maintain their core competitiveness.
Judging from the current development trend, the improvement of the global economic situation will become more apparent. The increase in exports will drive up demand for electronic products and also boost integrated circuit product inventory. In particular, the continuous increase in demand for smartphones, consumer electronics, and automotive electronics is expected to gradually rise. Meanwhile, as various industries such as medical electronics and security electronics continue to deepen their informatization efforts, the market share of integrated circuits will also increase. Overall, the integrated circuit industry is currently showing a trend of rapid development.
